BUELLTON, Calif. — October 31, 2026. Buellton residents who want a closer role in shaping local land use and development have a new opportunity: the city says applications for all five positions on its Planning Commission will be accepted through Monday, November 30.
In its October 21 community update, the city announced that a notice of vacancies would be published October 29 and that the City Council would appoint all five commission members. The announcement does not itself establish who has applied, who will be selected, or when the appointments will be finalized.
Why the commission matters
Planning commissions review land-use proposals, development standards and planning questions that affect the future of a community. For Buellton, those discussions connect to active questions about the Avenue of Flags, new or renovated community facilities and the use of commercial and residential property.
The city has also reported that staff are refining concepts for Avenue of Flags Median 3 after hearing feedback from council members and planning commissioners. Revised plans for the proposed Santa Ynez Valley Children’s Museum have been submitted for departmental review, with a public hearing to be scheduled only after outstanding comments and requirements are addressed. Those are separate project updates, not decisions by a newly appointed commission.
How to learn more
Interested residents should review the city’s vacancy notice and confirm eligibility, application forms and submission instructions directly with Buellton before the November 30 deadline. The city has not listed those administrative details in the October 21 general update, so applicants should not assume a particular filing method.
